The course requires that learners develop portfolios of evidence in their own time and submit it to Ndzalama Competency Learning for assessment within 90 days of completion after the initial workshop.

An assessor is someone registered by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) body to measure competence against specified National Qualifications Framework (NQF) unit standards and qualifications. The role of an assessor is to:

  • Plan assessments
  • Conduct assessments
  • Give judgements
Learning assumed to be in place.

Participants do not require any previous knowledge of the NQF nor do they need to have assessment experience. However, assessors do need to have a qualification or experience (at least on the same level) in the occupation or subject matter they will be assessing.


Learning Method

Learners are required to participate fully in group and individual learning activities throughout the workshop. Learners are also encouraged to identify and express their specific learning needs and to contribute freely from their own experience. During the two day contact session, the facilitator also focus on change management and motivational aspects, as we’ve identified these issues as key areas of SAQA and implementing the NQF.


Assessment Method

During the workshop, participants will be briefed on how to prepare and present a Portfolio of Evidence for assessment against Unit Standard 115753: Conduct outcomes-based assessment.

  • The functions of SAQA and the NQF
  • Unit standard
  • Overview of the role of the assessor
01. Module two

  • Analyse a Unit Standard.
  • Identify what an assessor would plan to look for in an assessment against a Unit Standard
  • You will be supplied with a template for your Portfolio of Evidence. Once you have completed the activities that address each outcome for ‘Plan and conduct assessment of learning’ you will be given the pages to refer to in this template. This will allow you to make notes that will help you complete your Portfolio for assessment purposes

03. Module three.

  • Overview of Unit Standard—“Conduct Outcomes-based Assessment”
  • Specific Outcome 1—Demonstrate understanding of outcomes-based assessment
  • Specific Outcome 2—Prepare for assessment
04. Module four.

  • Specific Outcome 3—Conduct assessment
  • Specific Outcome 4— Provide feedback on assessments
  • Specific Outcome 5— Review assessment
05. Module five.

  • Consolidation
  • Essential Embedded Knowledge/Critical Cross-field Outcomes
  • Start to complete parts of Portfolio of Evidence in class
